![]() ![]() In the intervening 50 years plus since then Stanley have not had to change the design at all. After all, as we pointed out in the review of this product above, this design originated way back in 1963. So easy, quick, and most importantly, accurate. When it came time to select the best tape measure to make our list, we decided to go for the Stanley 33-245 Powerlock. A small steel wheel transfers graphite to the surface you’re marking. The patented built in marking device allows you to lay down a pencil line right where you want it, but there’s no pencil to sharpen, or break. It marks on the roughest of materials, and even marks on wet surfaces. They are simply the best tape measure ever invented. Now, put up the first lower panel from the middle out, as this will give you the ability to make adjustments as you match the remaining panels.Ī little about marking tape measures - If you have never used a self-marking tape, and you do a lot of home projects, you defiantly want to get one. I did the four upper panels first, because the ceiling was so out of wack, and I was very carful to keep each panel true to my vertical marks, made with the QuickDraw Self-marking tape measure, which should insure good alignment with the lower panels. You'll need a sharp razor knife to trim it, and if the knife is not sharp enough, it can easily tear the paper, so you might want to invest in new blades for your knife. If you look closely, you'll see the overlap of the panel on the molding above. ![]() It works well to use the tube the paper came in. It doesn't take long with most papers, but you'll have to test it to determine if you've gotten the curl out. NOTE: It's very important, is to reverse roll the wallpaper, so it lays out flat, when you unroll it. First step is laying out the measuring and that requires a measuring tape, a pencil, and something to keep the pencil sharp, except not today, because today, we're using a self-marking tape measure with a built-in marking device, because it's so much easier. This is the best tape for working all day and not having to worry about something so simple as getting accurate marks from the tape measure to your work. So, you're about to hang a picture, or some shelves, or in this case, a wallpaper mural. I am impressed at the innovation and engineering that went into designing this tape. This “EASY READ” model is different from a traditional tape measure because it has fractions(in 1/8’s of an inch) printed on the tape. Markings are only in feet and inches so no metric readings (although they have different models with metric available). This EZ read model offers a large markings at 1/8″ intervals. The blade standout is 9 feet, which is average. The tape hook is a basic hook with 3 rivets and the blade is nylon coated for added durability. The body is made up of ABS which is known for its impact resistance and surrounded by rubber outer wrap for added grip. The belt clip was thinner than other tapes, but has had no issue with reliability. Powerlock comes with a locked blade, belt hook, 1-inch-wide blade, and 16- and 19.2-inch stud center markings, which are all standard features that ensure accurate measures and prevent the tool from slipping while in use. The overall quality of the tape is about average. This tape measure provides unparalleled flexibility and convenience in any circumstance. I was not able to get the 1000 marks per lead that they say, but then again, I tend to mark over to make it darker. Reloading is very easy and takes just a few seconds. I’ve had 3 of these in my tool box for a total of 3 years, and the early models were prone to slip, but that has been fixed on the current models. While testing it out, all marks were spot on and accurate. When done correctly, you can rest assured your marks are accurate. It has a visible sight from the top, that allows you to see where you want to lock the tape, and a marking wheel where you can read existing marks and duplicate them on several pieces of wood. This will assure that you always mark the correct length. This is both true if you are the only user, or if there are more than one in your shop doing the measuring. Measuring and marking that measurement is worth its weight. It comes with 1 piece of 0.9mm 4D graphite loaded in the tape measure and is ready to go and make marks right out of the package. This allows you to lay down a mark onto a surface and is fed by lead similar to what is used by mechanical lead pencils. The quickdraw tape measure is a conventional tape measure, right up to the addition of a steel wheel on the foot of the tape measure. ![]() If you, like me, have issue measuring and marking lumber accurately, then I may have found the perfect tool for your shop.
